It looks like we’re finally getting settled in for the most part. This is a good thing, because being somewhat settled is nearly paramount for my sanity. Or so I am learning. On the whole, things are going well.
A few weeks ago I got pretty sick and wound up in the Emergency Room, which was really expensive. The one-two punch of the Swine Flu and a bacterial infection knocked me out of comission for approximately ten days. It was one of those experiences where I had a chance to ponder deep thoughts like: “Man, I am such a weenie when it comes to being sick!” But I’m mostly all better now.

I baked a pie for the holiday and it turned out pretty well.

While I haven’t sewn anything of consequence in quite a while, I’ve kept an eye on my favorite textile and pattern designer, Amy Butler, via her website. Last night I was thrilled to discover that she has created a line of 100% organic bedding that went on sale at Bed Bath & Beyond last month (and by that I mean they are selling it, not they’ve reduced the price… unfortuantely). I’m a little disapointed with the color-selection– either black and white or super bold colors (I’ve always admired Butler for her use of earth tones with wild and bold graphics), but I think I still like the line on the whole.
Check it out!

Right. Well.
Things are happening, but on the whole, purgatory continues. I guess that sometimes we underestimate the importance of the home-base, because frankly, not having one is killing the Kerr-Owens family. My parents are still graciously sheltering us while we daily change our minds about the housing situation. We’ve put another offer on a house, but I’ve put my foot down to say that if it doesn’t work out (rather immediately) we’re just getting an apartment: no ands, ifs, or buts. My parents, who apparently were Spartans in their previous lives, get along without central air-conditioning or a dishwasher and this adds to the general ethos of misery. However, both of us are enjoying our work, which helps a little.

Jim Winters kindly provided me with the link to my commencement address. It’s very short (they address with precorded specifically so that the Powers That Be could control the time length), but turned out well. If you’re interested you can click below, select “Arts and Letters,” then advance the recording to 51:51.
